德國政府全力支持德國國防產品外銷，總理莫克爾在這方面極力親商，因為這些生意對德國經濟貢獻莫大。德國國防產品相中的最大市場是亞洲，亞洲由於各國衝突或潛在衝突加劇，已成為全球最重要的安全問題焦點地區，2013年全球五大武器進口國有三個是太平洋國家 (中國、南韓、新加坡)。明鏡周刊報導，德國的生意經蓋過對武器進口國人權紀錄的關切。
